Settlers Park Retirement Village enjoyed a vibrant and fulfilling 2025, with a calendar packed full of events that showcased the warmth, spirit, and togetherness that define this special community.
The year began on a cheerful note at Glen’s Den, where Wednesday nights quickly became a highlight. Residents gathered for midweek laughs, lively stories, the ever-popular Joker Draw, and the much-anticipated Lucky Cottage Draw — all in support of initiatives that directly benefit the Village. Saturdays continued the momentum with relaxed social evenings where good food and great company set the tone for the weekend.
February set the stage for superb socialising. A memorable evening of fine wines, craft brews, and gourmet snack pairings in the Hibiscus Room delighted residents and friends. Hosted by Eastern Cape Caterers, Kraft Alchemy, and the Hibiscus Room team, the event was a standout showcase of flavour and fellowship. Romance followed shortly after with a Valentine’s lunch of beautifully prepared treats, and then the much-loved annual Valentine’s Dance. Over 100 residents took to the floor at Don Powis Hall, enjoying lively music, plenty of laughter, and an atmosphere filled with joy.
Autumn brought one of the Village’s most colourful traditions — the Easter Cavalcade. This year’s parade saw vintage cars, motorcycles, bicycles, golf carts, mobility scooters, wheelchairs, and walkers parading proudly through the Village. The Care Centre stole the show with their “Flower Power” theme, and the entire event once again highlighted the unity, humour, and creativity of the Settlers Park family.
In May, the community honoured its many remarkable nonagenarians at the annual Over-90s Tea. This special gathering celebrated residents whose wisdom and resilience continue to inspire. The star of the day was 102-year-old Elisabeth Milln, who had the honour of cutting the cake.
Winter was warmed by the ever-popular Soup Evening, featuring 14 hearty home-made soups and more than 100 residents enjoying an evening of comfort and companionship. Soon after, engines revved and spirits soared as the Albany Vintage Car and Motor Club and the Ulysses Bike Club treated residents to joyful outings beyond the Village gates — a much-loved annual highlight.
August brought a burst of creativity with the Settlers Park Talent Show, where music, dance, comedy, and piano performances filled the hall with applause and admiration. Later in September, new residents were welcomed at the Newcomers Tea — a relaxed, friendly chance to connect, meet neighbours, and settle in.
Heritage Day brimmed with colour as staff dressed in celebration of South Africa’s rich cultural diversity, followed by the annual Garden Awards in November, honouring the green-fingered residents who help the Village bloom year-round.
The year tapered off with festive cheer at the much-anticipated Craft Market, featuring over 60 stallholders offering delicious bakes, handmade crafts, plants, and Christmas gifts — a perfect reflection of the creativity and community spirit that make Settlers Park such a treasured place to call home.
