Be a tourist in your own backyard
Now that the weather is cooling down, it is the perfect time for trying something new so we suggest becoming a tourist in the Settlers Park Retirement Village’s backyard?
We’re suggesting that you make a point of enjoying our region’s beauty and the plethora of leisure activities that are on offer.

Port Alfred boasts a picturesque golf course that seamlessly blends with the coastal landscape. Tee off against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean, enjoy the crisp sea air as you indulge in a round of golf with fellow enthusiasts. The golfing community in Port Alfred is not just about the game; it’s a social experience that fosters camaraderie among players. Give the club a ring to find out more about their Mashie Course and, if required, lessons. Remember too that there is the Rosehill driving range where you can practice your swing!
And if golf is not for you, how about bowls or croquet or tennis? Our town has vibrant clubs where you’ll be warmly welcomed while meeting new folks and enjoying new experiences.
We would be remiss not to mention the joys that the Kowie River can provide, whether you are a seasonal angler or a novice eager to learn, the local fishing scene offers opportunities to connect with nature, unwind, and perhaps even reel in a tale-worthy catch. The meditative act of fishing is not only relaxing but can provide a sense of accomplishment. We are fortunate to have highly reputable fishing and boating charters available and the services and resources available at the adventure centre at Little Beach.

And if you’re not keen on casting a line, how about going on a river cruise on one of the barges from the Small Boat Harbour?

Further afield you can explore some of Ndlambe’s neighbourhood attractions. Most folks know about quaint Bathurst but have you explored the Quin Sculpture Garden in Alexandria, taken the forest drive through the Golden Mile, enjoyed pancakes in the car park on the beachfront at Boknes, travelled the poor man’s game drive or had a brekkie bun on Kenton’s Middle Beach front? And while in the town, pop in at the Tourism office and find out about other attractions in that neck of the woods. You might be surprised at just how much is on offer!
Keep an eye on the local newspapers and sign up for art lessons, bridge classes or take a ride on the little train. You can also pour over the various adverts for eateries and try somewhere new for a cup of tea or a meal or two. Not forgetting that several offer senior citizen discounts. And while you are at it, invite a friend, a neighbour or a family member along for company.

After a delightful day out exploring the beauty of nature and enjoying the company of friends, returning home to Settlers Park Retirement Village feels like stepping into a haven of warmth and support. The tailored amenities, first class security measures and close-knit community create a unique atmosphere, perfectly suited to the needs of seniors.
